School Counseling Videos for School Administrators Now Available to the Public

Last year, the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP) partnered with Hatching Results and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to create a six-part video series specifically designed for school administrators to better assist and support the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program (CSCP). These short videos are set up in a talk-show format, hosted by ASWP Associate Director Kamrica Ary-Turner. Watch and learn useful tips and practical advice to implement as a school administrator, district lead, or school counselor. All six of the videos are available to the public and can be found on the ASWP Learning Lab.

The first video, Chapter 1, is a review of Substitute Senate Bill (SSB) 5030, and Kamrica Ary-Turner interviews Kim Reykdal, Director, Graduation and Pathway Preparation, OSPI. The Washington State Legislature passed SSB 5030 in 2021, which requires districts to develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses students’ social/emotional, academic, and career development in alignment with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model. This video is specifically for school administrators in the state of Washington.

In the remaining five videos, Chapters 2-6, ASWP Associate Director Kamrica Ary-Turner pulls from her experience as a former school counselor and school administrator to ask poignant questions of Hatching Results' Executive Directors Whitney Triplett and Paul Meyers. Each video includes practical advice and useful suggestions for school site administrators that are directed toward Washington’s school administrators, but in reality, five of the six videos are applicable to any school administrator across the nation wanting to help their school counselors implement a CSCP.
