The Innovative School Counseling Cohort Experience
Includes:
5 live virtual sessions (10 hours total, Zoom)
Expert-led training on systems change and strategic planning
Collaborative workshops with peers
Strategic planning tools and frameworks
Session recordings available for 3 months afterward

Session Topics:

Become familiar with the overall structure, purpose, and objectives of the cohort, gaining clarity on what to expect and how to engage effectively
Develop a common understanding of the benefits of implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that is proactive and data-driven
Create a community of practice characterized by a shared purpose, established norms, and growth as leaders

Understand how data informs MTMDSS tiered decision-making within comprehensive school counseling programs to support students with diverse and multifaceted needs
Demonstrate the ability to analyze student data (e.g., attendance, behavior, and academic indicators) to identify trends, root causes, and equity gaps that guide intentional intervention planning
Apply data-driven strategies within the MTMDSS framework to design, implement, and evaluate targeted interventions that lead to positive, measurable student outcomes—and believe in the power of data-informed practice to drive equitable change for all students

Utilize tools and resources for cultivating a clear understanding among service providers and administrators to ensure effective collaborative teaming
Gain support from community partners by way of asset-mapping in delivering a comprehensive school counseling program
Identify opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration within the site

Implement strategies to effectively brand the comprehensive school counseling program to build awareness and gain the support of the school community
Demonstrate the impact of a CSCP and value of school counselors within non-traditional settings in contributing to positive student outcomes in all three domains

Explore a school-based counseling leadership team model that informs and contributes to the direction of the district’s comprehensive school counseling program
Draft a strategic 3-year plan for the sustainability of comprehensive school counseling programs aligned to your district’s strategic objectives

About the Cohort
Non-traditional education settings serve students with complex academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs who require coherent, data-informed, and sustainable systems of support. This cohort provides structured learning, tools, and collaborative problem-solving opportunities that build capacity at both the site and district levels.
Rather than standalone professional development, the ISCC is a capacity-building investment that equips school counselors with the leadership skills, systems knowledge, and strategic planning tools needed to:
