Well......our superintendent is completely thrilled with all the work our counselors have been doing all year. AND, because we have presented so much data through our SPARC reports (every school in our district wrote one - all 9 of them) and through our work with our Post Secondary Planning Initiative, he is recommending to the board that NO counselor in our district gets cut. Ironically, after attending your conference last Thursday and Friday, every school is still preparing a data-based presentation for me to give to the board along with all of our SPARC reports. We have already done a big presentation for the board in December about our Post Secondary Planning Initiative, so this would be follow up. At that December board meeting, each counselor was also recognized for all their hard work so far this year with our Post-Secondary Planning Initiative. We have really worked hard to market what counselors do and shown the data to prove that counselors matter. I really need to thank you for all your help and guidance; I have learned so much about counseling and the importance of data-driven results from you. I know you and Dr. Lonnie Rowell have trained most of the counselors in this district, and they are amazing. We have literally saved our own jobs through data-driven, research-based, hard work using the ASK model. And, because of Dr. Rowell's work through USD, his graduate students have written an ARC to show that our on-line career program, COIN, is helping students make college and career choices earlier. Today, the superintendent sent a report to everyone in the district letting us know that because of the counselors' hard work, "...the Board has directed us to offset any reduction to current counselors because of the significant impact it would have on the implementation of our Individual Graduation Plan and Post-Secondary Plan initiatives." I just can't believe it. Our superintendent is to be commended for his support of counselors, and our counselors are to be commended for their work all year and for getting their SPARC reports done, and for getting data involving the PSP initiative. By the end of the year, we hope to have 100% of our seniors with a post secondary plan. That is amazing. Thank you for everything.................now the hard work continues. Hopefully the board continues to agree with our superintendent. I was just crying with our superintending just saying, "Thank you, thank you." He just said, "Keep up the great work, Rad." It was awesome. I hope you know your impact, Trish. We really all are a 'team' of counselors. rad Andrea Radmilovich Director of Curriculum and Instruction Grossmont Union High School District Phone: 619-644-8037 Fax: 619-462-5721
